Isn't this just a landline?
Not quite. An old landline is one line on a copper wire, and anyone can ring it, spam included. Hello Hello gives your family one number that rings the house phone and both your cells. Only the people on your list ring through. Anyone else needs your family PIN, which is there for urgent calls. Kids get their own line with its own ring. And it all works over your home internet, so no copper line is needed.
How does this help us be more present?
The people on your list ring the house phone, so your own phone can go in a drawer or a basket by the door. You'll still hear the calls that matter.
Who can reach us?
People on your family list ring the house phone and your cells. People on the kids' list ring the kids' line, at the house only. Anyone else is asked for your family PIN, and without it the call ends, so spam doesn't ring through. You can change both lists anytime.
What if something is urgent?
Give your family PIN to anyone who might need you in a pinch, like a sitter or a kid who lost their phone. With the PIN, their call rings the house and your cells.
How does it help kids be more independent?
The kids' line has its own ring, so kids know the call is for them and get to answer it. Soon they'll be able to call approved people, like Grandma, on their own. No smartphone needed.
Does it work with our cell phones?
Yes. Keep your own cells and carriers. Your family number rings your cells and the house phone at the same time, so you can pick up wherever you are.
What's setup like?
We're planning a simple kit: plug a small adapter into your router and plug in the phone. We set up your number, and you add your people on a simple settings page. Your number isn't tied to your address, so if you move, bring the phone along. We'll share kit details before anything ships or bills.
What will it cost?
Our current estimate is about $7 a month for one family line, or about $10 a month with the kids' line. Prices may change before launch, and you'll see the final price before you're ever billed. The $5 deposit is fully refundable (just email [email protected]) and counts toward your first month. The phone kit is planned at about cost.
When does it ship?
There's no ship date yet. We'll ship in small batches, in sign-up order, and email you before anything ships or bills. We won't charge for equipment until we can give you a real date.
Can it call 911?
We'll explain exactly how emergency calling works, including its limits during power or internet outages, before you're ever billed.
